Mesh Router - Configure via MPro Mesh App

The Zyxel MPro Mesh Routers (e.g., DX3301 & WX3100) allow you to set up an MPro Mesh network, manage your WiFi settings, and optimize bandwidth usage using the mobile app. This guide will walk you through various scenarios for configuring your Zyxel Mesh Router and Extenders using the mobile app, suitable for users that want an easy setup for their network.

Setting Up MPro Mesh Network Controller

1. Device Requirement: Ensure you have a Zyxel Device that can function as a controller, which can be either an MPro Mesh Router or an MPro Mesh Extender.

2. SSID and Password Consistency: All devices in your network (controller and extenders) must have the same SSID and password for AP steering and band steering to work effectively. If needed, change the SSID and password on your Zyxel Device (controller) to match.
   

3. Changing General WiFi Settings:

   • Open the mobile app.
   • Tap on "WiFi" in the navigation panel.
   • Tap the edit icon (pencil) to change the general WiFi SSID and password.
   • Optionally, use the QR code displayed to connect your devices to the general WiFi network.
     

4. Adjusting Extender Locations:

   • Go to the "Home" section in the app.
   • Identify extenders with a red WiFi icon (indicating a weak signal).
   • Move these extenders closer to the Zyxel Device (controller).
   • Tap the refresh button to check the updated status of your extenders. They should show green or amber WiFi icons when properly placed.
     

Setting up MPro Mesh Router and Extender with WiFi

1. Hardware Setup:

   • Turn on both the MPro Mesh Router and MPro Mesh Extender near each other. Ensure their power LEDs are steady green.
   • Download the mobile app to your smartphone and log in to the MPro Mesh Router. You may need to forget your current WiFi connection on your smartphone.
     

2. Changing SSID and WiFi Key on MPro Mesh Router:

   • Access the MPro Mesh Router settings in the app.
   • Change the default SSID and WiFi key. After applying changes, reconnect to the MPro Mesh Router using the new credentials.

3. Copying SSID and WiFi Key to MPro Mesh Extender:

   • Use WPS to copy the SSID and WiFi key from the MPro Mesh Router to the MPro Mesh Extender.
   • Turn off the MPro Mesh Extender and place it where you need extended WiFi coverage. Use the app to check if the extender's placement is optimal.

Setting up Non-MPro Mesh Router and Extender with Wired Connection

If you have a non-MPro mesh router, you can still connect your two routers, but with wired connection instead of WiFi.

1. Hardware Setup:

   • Ensure your non-MPro Mesh router is connected to the Internet.
   • Connect Extender 1 to your router using an Ethernet cable. The SSID and key will be copied from Extender 1 to the router.
     
   • Place Extender 1 where you want WiFi coverage.

2. Changing SSID and WiFi Key on Extender 1:

   • Download the mobile app and log in to Extender 1 (the MPro Mesh controller) using the default label information. You may need to forget your current WiFi connection on your smartphone.
     
   • Change the default SSID and WiFi key on Extender 1. After applying changes, reconnect to Extender 1 using the new credentials.

3. Copying SSID and WiFi Key to Extender 2:

   • You can use WPS to copy the SSID and WiFi key from Extender 1 to Extender 2.
     
   • Turn off Extender 2 and place it where you need extended WiFi coverage. Use the app to check if Extender 2's placement is optimal.

Scenario 4: Network Management with the MPro Mesh App

1. Changing Zyxel Device Name:

   • Access the Gateway Detail screen in the app.
   • Tap the edit icon (pencil) next to the model name.
     
   • Change the model name to "Home Router" or your preferred name.
     
     
   • Save the changes.

2. Managing Connected Devices:

   • Go to the "Devices" section in the app to view connected WiFi clients and their link quality.
     
   • To prevent a specific client from connecting to your MPro Mesh network, tap on the client's name, and toggle the switch in the "Pause Internet" field to the right (enabled position). This will block that client from connecting.
