[ATTENTION] USG FLEX H Series Firewall - intermediate firmware update during the initial setup

We would like to inform you that Zyxel has recently launched the new USG FLEX H devices, which offer high-performance capabilities. Our software department has made significant feature enhancements between the release version and the version that is shipped out.

In light of these enhancements, it is imperative that you upgrade your firmware version. However, it is MANDATORY that you perform a step-by-step upgrade, rather than directly updating to the latest version.

Initial Setup

About the initial setup process for your device. It is essential that the device is connected to the Internet during the setup. One of the first steps is to configure the WAN (Internet connection). Additionally, please note that registering your device is a mandatory step, and you will need a MyZyxel Portal account for this purpose. You can create a MyZyxel Portal account by following the instructions provided in this link.

We kindly request that you upgrade your device to firmware version 1.08 if you are currently using the 6.29 firmware. Once your device is on firmware version 1.08, you can proceed with the upgrade to version 1.10.

Please refrain from upgrading directly from firmware version 6.29 to version 1.10, as this step is explicitly prohibited if you need to execute a manual firmware upgrade.

To download firmware version 1.08 automatically, please follow the instructions provided in the device's Wizard. The Wizard will guide you through the necessary steps.

If you are unable to access the internet and need to manually upgrade the firmware, please download version 1.08 from the provided link.

Once you have successfully upgraded your device to version 1.08, you can choose to continue with the Online Upgrade option or download version 1.10 from the article.

1.10 Upgrade Failed Recovery

If you manually upgrade the firmware to version 1.10 and encounter issues preventing your firewall from booting successfully, follow these steps to recover your system

Step 1

• Connect the console to the device 
• Restart the device
• Enter debug mode
  When you see "Press any key to enter debug mode within 3 seconds" press any key to enter debug mode
• Then set the command line, and use partition 1 to restart the device

Step 2 

• Wait for the device to boot up
• Open your browser and go to https://192.168.168.1
• Log in to the GUI
• Use the firmware wizard to upgrade to uOS 1.08 Patch 1 first
• Proceed with the upgrade to uOS 1.10 firmware
