DSLAM / CPE: How to Manage VMG-Device over VDSL and Bridge traffic to Clients
Example here, all Network Interfaces has an own DHCP-Server:
VLAN1 (untagged Network) for Device Management
VLAN220 (tagged Network) for Internet Traffic
VLAN221 (tagged Network) for IPTV
xDSL Port = VMG-Management
Lan-Port 1-2 = Bridge Traffic from VLAN 220
Lan-Port 3 = Multicast for IPTV from VLAN221
Lan-Port 4 = local Modem Management Port without DHCP
Requirement: VMG/DSLAM are using default settings
1. DSLAM settings
VLAN1 is default VLAN on DSLAM; we must add VLAN220 and VLAN221 as Tagged Network:
DSLAM configuration: done.
2. VMG settings
Connect to Lan-Port4 on VMG-Device; get via DHCP your IP:
Open in Browser http://192.168.1.1 and Login with
User: admin, Password: 1234.
After Login, you can see that the device is On-Line. This is because the VMG-Device is in default in Routing Mode and VDSL is DHCP Client:
Go to Network=> Broadband:
This are the VMG default Profiles.
Now we must add VLAN220 and VLAN221 as Bridge Mode:
Than we check under Network => Broadband:
In addition, we have now available:
VDSL default as Routing Profile and DHCP Client
INET_220 and MCAST_VLAN221 as Bridge Profile.
Now we go to Wi-Fi and we configure Wi-Fi (if needed, otherwise you can disable Wi-Fi): 2.4 GHz & 5 GHz; configure SSID, Channel and PSK:
In addition, we must assign the Interfaces (Lan-Ports) to the WAN-Interfaces. Network => Interface Grouping:
We assign VLAN220 for Internet to Port Lan-Port 1/2 and to Wi-Fi:
VLAN221 is our Multicast Network for IPTV, so we assign VLAN221 to Lan-Port3 only:
Now we need to change some default settings:
- disable Firewall
- Set Management IP und disable DHCP-Server for Lan-Port 4
VMG-Device IP is set to 192.168.1.222/24, this is now our Management IP on Lan-Port4 and we lose the connection to VMG-device.
Now we must assign a Static-IP to our Client, here 192.168.1.11/24 and we can access our VMG-device with IP 192.168.1.222 again:
VMG-device configuration is finish now, we can check:
Connect to Lan-Port ½ or Wi-Fi with DHCP; our Client get IP from VLAN220:
Then we try Port 3 as DHCP Client:
VMG-Device configuration: done.
