Before a DAS system implementation takes place it requires planning and preparation, an important part of this is determining the mobile radio frequencies of the providers available on-site, these include for example the signal strength, different frequency ranges and bands.
This article describes the possibility of how this information can be collected by using a smartphone app.
In this example, we use the Network Cell Info app by WiLysis available on Android OS.
This tool offers many options and shows all necessary data of the available providers in detail.
The prerequisite for collecting all data is a SIM card from every mobile phone provider for which the frequencies are to be examined on-site.
In addition, the measurements should take place where the corresponding hardware components will be installed later.
- To collect the data for a special provider, make sure that the corresponding SIM card is inserted in the smartphone.
- The WLAN connection does not have to be disconnected.
- Go to the place where you want the measurements to be taken.
- Run the app
- The app automatically scans the existing frequencies and shows the values in detail in various tabs
- Take the necessary information from the different information fields and graphics of the app.
Some of the information you get is:
- SIM and device info
- Connection statistics and network information
- Signal-meter gauges
- Signal strength (quality over time, route coloring)
- Serving cell details, cellular signals, cell information
- Cellular signals, Cell info
- Graph information for signal
- Map with network cellular info, markers with location and signal info
Network Cell Info App:
The gauge shows information about the serving cell and network signal strength.
Furthermore, you have the neighbor cells displayed as well.
In the RAW section, you get information about your wifi or mobile connection and displays the current connection information of the serving and neighbor cells.
The evolution of the signal strength over time for the serving and neighbor cells provides the possibility for network quality exploration.
In this way, changes in the signal during the movement can be precisely determined and displayed.
There is a separate representation using graphs especially for LTE frequencies
Your position and information about the map are displayed
With this collected information on the frequency values of the providers, it can now be checked and decided exactly which hardware is required to carry out the ZoneDAS implementation.
