SMS Handling and Device Management for FWA505 / FWA510 / FWA710

The Zyxel FWA505 and FWA510 devices support SMS functionality, which can be helpful to for SIM cards that require two-factor authentication, checking data usage, or receiving operator notifications.

Important Notice ⚠️ The Zyxel FWA710 does not support the Cellular SMS feature

Reading SMS

  1. Access the local web interface of the device:

    • Open a web browser and enter the device's IP address (default: 192.168.1.1).

    • Log in using administrator credentials.

  2. Navigate to Network Settings> Broadband > Cellular SMS.

  3. Under the Inbox tab, you will see all received SMS messages. You can view or delete them as needed.

Sending SMS

  1. In the same Cellular SMS section, switch to the Send tab.

  2. Enter the recipient's phone number in international format (e.g., +4917xxxxxxxx).

  3. Type the message content (up to 160 characters).

  4. Click Send to deliver the message.

Device Management in Nebula Mode

Even when your FWA505 and FWA510 device is added to the Zyxel Nebula cloud platform, it's important to understand the following:

What You Can Do via Nebula

Nebula provides monitoring and basic device control, including:

  • Rebooting the device.

  • Firmware upgrades.

  • Monitoring signal strength, traffic, and SIM card status.

  • Receiving alerts and event logs.

Limitations

  • SMS functionality is not available via Nebula. To read or send SMS, you must use the local web interface.

  • Some WAN parameters, SIM PIN settings, SMS, and other sensitive features are only configurable via the local web interface.
