This article explains how to perform the initial setup of the Zyxel IAP500 access point, including unboxing, powering on the device, and adding it to Zyxel Nebula Control Center. It also covers basic wireless (Wi‑Fi) configuration required to bring the access point online.
Requirements and Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- a Zyxel IAP500 access point;
- a PoE switch or PoE injector (IEEE 802.3at) or DC power adapter;
- an Ethernet cable;
- Internet connectivity;
- a Zyxel Nebula account (https://nebula.zyxel.com);
- a computer or smartphone with a web browser.
Unboxing the Device
- Open the Zyxel IAP500 package.
- Verify that the package contains:
- Zyxel IAP500 access point;
- mounting kit (bracket and screws);
- Quick Start Guide.
Power Connection and Initial Startup
- Connect an Ethernet cable to the LAN / PoE port on the IAP500.
- Connect the other end of the cable to:
- a PoE switch, or
- a PoE injector (PoE port), or
- DC power adapter
- Power on the PoE switch or PoE injector.
- Wait for the access point to boot:
- the LED indicator flashes during initialization;
- after startup, the LED shows a steady or slow‑blinking status depending on the operating state.
⏳ Initial boot may take up to 3–5 minutes.
Adding Zyxel IAP500 to Nebula
Log in to Nebula Control Center
- Open a web browser and go to https://nebula.zyxel.com.
- Sign in with your Nebula account credentials.
- Create an Organization and Site (if not created yet)
If this is your first Nebula deployment:
- Create an Organization.
- Inside the organization, create a Site
- Add the Access Point - How to Register an Zyxel AP to Nebula
Verify Device Status
- Go to Devices → Access Points.
- Locate the IAP500 in the device list.
- Confirm that the device status is Online.
If the status shows Offline:
- verify PoE power delivery;
- check network and Internet connectivity;
- confirm that the serial number was entered correctly.
Basic Wireless Configuration
Create an SSID
- In Nebula Control Center, go to: Configure → Access points → SSIDs.
- Click Add SSID.
- Configure the following:
- SSID name;
- enable the SSID.
Configure Wireless Security
Recommended settings:
- Security Mode: WPA2‑PSK or WPA2/WPA3‑PSK;
- Pre‑Shared Key: set a strong wireless password;
- VLAN: optional (leave disabled if not required).
- In Nebula Control Center, go to: Site-wide - Configure - Access points - SSID advanced settings
Verify Wi‑Fi Connectivity
- Connect a wireless client to the newly created SSID.
- Verify that:
- the client receives an IP address;
- Internet access is available;
- the wireless connection is stable.
