Zyxel SecuExtender VPN Client – Reinstallation & License Reactivation Guide (Resolution for Activation Error 32)

This article explains how to properly reinstall the Zyxel SecuExtender IPSec VPN Client and handle license reactivation.

It also clarifies the difference between:

  • Reinstalling SecuExtender on the same computer
  • Uninstalling SecuExtender and Installing It on another computer

Best Practice: Clean Reinstallation / Uninstalling Process

Follow these steps for a clean and reliable reinstall (administrator rights required):

Uninstall the VPN Client

  • Access Installed Programs:
    • Navigate to Settings > Apps > Apps & Features.
  • Initiate Uninstallation:
    • Locate the item Zyxel IPSec VPN Client in the list.​
    • Click on it and select Uninstall
  • Complete the Process:
    • Follow the prompts to finish the uninstallation. Ensure the computer is connected to the internet during this process to automatically release the license key for reuse.

The uninstall process automatically releases the license for reuse on the authorization server.

Restart the Computer ✅ (important)

Reboot ensures:

  • all services are stopped
  • drivers are fully unloaded

This is still a recommended best practice, especially for VPN software.

Note: The license will only be released for use on another device if the client has been fully uninstalled and the computer was connected to the Internet at the time of uninstallation. If you encounter any problems during this process, please contact support Contact Support

Installing and Activating the VPN Client on a New Computer:

  • Download the Latest Version:
    • Obtain the most recent version of the Zyxel IPSec VPN Client from the official Zyxel website.​

IPSec and SSL VPN Client

  • Run as Administrator:
    • Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator to initiate the installation wizard.
  • Follow Installation Prompts:
    • Proceed through the installation steps as guided by the wizard.​
  • Activate the License:
    • When you launch the VPN Client, please enter your license key when prompted to activate the software.​

Handling Inaccessible or Damaged Hard Drives

  • Contact Zyxel Support:
    • If you're unable to access the previous computer due to hardware issues, reach out to the Contact Support
  • Provide Necessary Information:
    • Supply your license key number and the email address used during the initial registration.​
  • License Release:
    • After verification, Zyxel Support will assist in releasing your license key for activation on a new device. 

By meticulously following these steps, you can seamlessly transfer or reinstall your Zyxel IPSec VPN Client license to a new computer.
