This article will explain how the licensing works for our layer 3 capable switches and which licenses to choose when bigger projects are in need to leverage the flexibility of layer 3 [L3] routing. This explains the three routing licenses (Basic Routing License, Advanced Routing License, Access L3 License), and which license number to buy for stand-alone mode.

Network with the demand for large installations which need more than just static route can leverage the flexibility of optional license availability. There’s an option to purchase the basic routing license separately now. The basic routing license offers RIP v1/v2, OSPF and DVMRP to support more complex routing environment.

Network that needs advance IPv6 routing protocols for larger installation has the flexibility to purchase the advanced routing license separately, as needed. The advanced routing license supports RIPng and OSPFv3 for XGS4600 to support IPv6 routing environment.
