This article will guide you through creating an additional user on Zyxel switches, managing user rights, and changing the administrator password.
Up to five users (one administrator and four non-administrators) can access the switch through the Web Configurator at any one time.
Disclaimer! This article offers a general overview of the series and may not apply uniformly to every model, software/firmware version. Before purchasing or using the device, please consult the model/version-specific documentation or reach out to technical support for accurate information.
Administrator
An administrator can both view and configure switch settings. The username for the Administrator is always "admin," and the default administrator password is "1234." It is highly recommended to change this default password.
Go to the Switch Web GUI -> SYSTEM -> Logins
Changing the Administrator Password
- Old Password: Enter the current system password (the default is "1234").
- New Password: Enter your new system password. You can use up to 32 printable ASCII characters.
- Retype to Confirm: Retype the new system password for confirmation.
Note: Avoid using [ ? ], [ | ], [ ' ], [ " ], or [ , ] in any field. In the Password fields, spaces are also not allowed.
Non-Administrator Users
A non-administrator (with a username other than "admin") can view and/or configure switch settings based on their privilege level.
Adding and Editing Users
Note: You can grant higher privileges to users through the Web Configurator or the CLI. For more details on assigning privileges via CLI, refer to the Ethernet Switch CLI Reference Guide.
- User Name: Set a username (up to 32 printable ASCII characters, excluding [ ? ], [ | ], [ ' ], [ " ], or [ , ]).
- Password: Enter the user’s password.
- Retype to Confirm: Retype the password for confirmation.
- Privilege: Set the privilege level for this user. The privilege levels and their corresponding configuration rights are:
-
- 0: Display basic system information.
- 3: Display configuration or status.
- 13: Configure features except for login accounts, SNMP user accounts, authentication method sequences, authorization settings, multiple logins, administrator and enable passwords, and configuration information display.
- 14: Configure login accounts, SNMP user accounts, authentication method sequences, authorization settings, multiple logins, administrator and enable passwords, and display configuration information.
Users can run command lines if the session’s privilege level is greater than or equal to the command’s privilege level. The session privilege initially comes from the login account's privilege. For example, a user with a privilege level of 5 can run commands that require a privilege level of 5 or lower but not higher.
