USG FLEX H Series [Firewall] - Packet Capture

Capturing packets on the Web-GUI is a crucial skill for network administrators when troubleshooting network issues. By capturing packets, administrators can analyze network traffic to identify problems, such as performance issues, security breaches, or misconfigurations. When capturing packets on the Web-GUI, administrators can monitor and capture network traffic in real time. This allows them to inspect the data being transmitted on the network, including the source and destination of packets, protocols being used, and any errors or anomalies present.

  • Navigate to the device Web-GUI
  • Select the profile and click the "Edit" button.
Maintenance > Diagnostics > Packet Capture

Select the desired interface, which in this example is ge4, and proceed to edit the "Filter" and "Misc Settings" parameters. Within the "Filter" section, configure the necessary settings; for this example, we have selected IPv4 as the IP version and ICMP as the protocol type.

Save the settings you made and return to the profiles section. Select the profile and click the play button to start packet capturing.

Press the "Stop" button after the designated amount of time has elapsed to terminate the packet capture.

Select the captured packet and download it.

Open the packet file to check the content.
