Keeping your Zyxel 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) routers up to date ensures optimal performance, improved security, and access to new features. This guide walks you through the process of upgrading the firmware on Zyxel FWA710 and FWA505 devices.
Note: This guide demonstrates the process using the Zyxel FWA505. The steps are nearly the same for other models, like the FWA710 and FWA510, with only minor variations in menu layout or terminology.
Why Upgrade Your FWA Device?
Firmware upgrades provide several benefits:
- Security patches to protect against vulnerabilities.
- Performance enhancements for better stability and speed.
- New features and settings for improved usability.
Regular updates help maintain peak device performance and reduce the risk of service disruptions.
Radio Module Firmware Updates
For FWA series devices, it is not necessary to update the radio module separately, as is required for NR series devices. This is because FWA devices include radio module updates within the main firmware.

Firmware update process
To access the router, open a browser and navigate to 192.168.1.1 (this IP is also listed on the device's sticker or can be found through your computer's network settings)
Important: When accessing the Web Configurator on FWA710, make sure to use the correct IP address based on your connection type:
- If you're connected via Wi-Fi, go to http://192.168.1.1
- If you're connected via Ethernet, go to http://192.168.2.1
In the upper right corner, click the menu icon and select "Maintenance" - "Firmware Update"
Select a previously downloaded update and click on the “ Upload” button
The update will now download and install, taking about 5–7 minutes. Please don’t refresh or interact with the page. Once it's done, it will refresh automatically, and you’ll be prompted to log in.
