Many users of the Zyxel FWA70, Zyxel FWA710, Zyxel NR7101, Zyxel NR7102, LTE7490-M904, and LTE7480-S905 ask the same question: why can they see a WiFi network, but cannot access the internet through it?
The answer is simple. The built-in WiFi in these outdoor 4G and 5G routers is designed only for device management and configuration. It allows users to connect to the router, open the Web GUI, use the Zyxel Air or LTE ALLY mobile apps, check signal strength, view connection status, and change settings.
However, the built-in WiFi on the Zyxel FWA710, FWA70, NR7101, NR7102, LTE7490-M904, and LTE7480-S905 is not intended to provide internet access to phones, laptops, or other client devices. This WiFi network is used only for local management of the device.
Automatic WiFi Timeout Behavior
- Activates automatically when the device is powered on or rebooted.
- Remains active for 30 minutes, after which it disables itself automatically.
- This behavior helps enhance security by limiting the window during which unauthorized users could connect to the management interface.
⚠️ Note: Even if you manually disable WiFi in the settings, it will automatically re-enable on the next reboot and follow the same 30-minute timeout cycle.
Disabling WiFi Manually
Although temporary, the WiFi function can still be manually disabled in the web GUI:
- Navigate to Network Settings > Wireless > General.
- Set Wireless Radio to Disable.
- Save settings (note: WiFi auto-enables on reboot).
