Zyxel Networks recognizes that advanced users—such as ISPs, system integrators, and networking professionals—often require enhanced flexibility to customize network behavior according to specific deployment needs. Historically, developing and deploying custom firmware, including OpenWrt-based solutions, on Zyxel access points frequently involved unofficial methods or bypassing the original firmware. Such approaches could be complex, inconsistent, and carry potential risks.
With this new approach, developers can now create and develop OpenWrt-based software directly on Zyxel Networks hardware through a standardized and secure method, eliminating the need to search for firmware vulnerabilities or rely on unofficial modification paths.
Supported Zyxel models: NWA130BE, NWA50BE, NWA55BE, NWA240BE, NWA210BE, NWA30BE — firmware V7.30; NWA55AX PRO, NWA55AX PTP — firmware V7.10
Note: Please note that once OpenWrt has been installed, restoring the device to the original factory firmware may not be possible. OpenWrt is third-party firmware intended for advanced use. Devices modified with custom firmware are not eligible for Zyxel support, warranty, or RMA services under any circumstances, including hardware-related issues.
