Bootloop when importing custom certificate on switch

In the firmware 4.60 for the XGS4600, we introduced a new function to import your own certificate to the device. We are having some issues at this moment depending on the certificate used to upload. If the size of your certificate's detail information is beyond the range of the switch's current design, it will cause a bootloop.

In the future, there will be a permanent fix in the FCS firmware (Q1 2021).

At this moment if you are having this problem, please use a console cable and perform a firmware recovery with the following firmware. This will resolve the issue.

Download Firmware

Firmware recovery:

Connect the console cable to the switch

Please connect the console cable to the RS232 of your switch while it's powered off and use a terminal emulation software such as Tera Term to connect to the switch using the COM port.

Power on the switch and enter the debug mode

Power on the device and wait until you see the prompt:

Press any key to enter debug mode within 1 second

Press any key and you will enter the debug mode.

On the screen you will now see the following:

XGS4600-52f>

Start the XMODEM upload mode

By typing atur you will start the XMODEM upload mode.

XGS4600-52f> atur

Upload the BIN file

  • Navigate in Tera Term to File > Transfer > XMODEM > Send...
  • In the opened window select the previously downloaded .BIN file and click "Open"
    • This will start the send process, it might take a while to upload the file to the switch.
Note: This upload may take several minutes.

Once the switch has received the ROM file, it will start overwriting the existing configuration file with the default configuration file (.ROM) and therefore resetting the switch.

When the console prompt returns to:

XGS4600-52f>

Please type in the following command:

XGS4600-52f> atgo

This will reboot the switch and the switch is up and running again.
