This article will show you how to set up your NR7101 or NWA710 (this could also be applied to your NR7103, NR7102, NR7101, FWA710, LTE7490, LTE7485, LTE7480, LTE7461, or LTE7240) and also increase the LTE / 4G throughput of your device if you are experiencing slow speed or get more speed from your mobile device.
Installing the Zyxel Air App
-
Download the Zyxel Air app:
- Android: Google Play
- iPhone: App Store
- Zyxel AIR App User Guide
- Install the app as you would any other application.
Connecting to the Device (Example: FWA710)
This connection is made directly via Wi-Fi, not through your main internet connection.
1. Power on the FWA710
Make sure the device is plugged in and has fully booted.
IMPORTANT: FWA710 Wi-Fi does not provide internet access
The Wi-Fi network broadcast by the FWA710 (e.g., Zyxel_5G_CPE_xxxx) is not intended for internet use.
It is exclusively used for local access and device management, including:
- The Zyxel Air app
- The Web GUI (web interface)

2. Connect to the FWA710 Wi-Fi
- Find the Wi-Fi SSID and password on the label on the device or packaging.
- Open Wi-Fi settings on your phone and connect to this network.
3. Launch the Zyxel Air App
- Once connected to the FWA710's Wi-Fi, open the app.
- The app should automatically detect the device.
If you're unable to connect to the FWA710's Wi-Fi network, try the following:
Power cycle the device — unplug the FWA710 from power, wait 10–15 seconds, then plug it back in and wait until it fully restarts.
This often resolves temporary wireless broadcast issues.
For more details on why this may happen, refer to the official Zyxel article:
Understanding WiFi Functionality on the Zyxel FWA710 Router
If you're connected to the FWA710’s Wi-Fi, but the Zyxel Air app cannot establish a connection:
Restart the Zyxel Air app completely — close it from the background, reopen it, and try again.
This helps reset the discovery process and usually resolves temporary connection issues.

5. You’re Connected!
You can now:
- View 4G/5G signal strength
- Use the built-in signal analyzer to find the best device placement
- Monitor network status and perform firmware updates
If something goes wrong
1. Device Not Found in the Zyxel Air App
Ensure your phone is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.
You must be connected to the local Wi-Fi network broadcast by the FWA710, not your home router or internet Wi-Fi.
The default SSID and password are printed on the label on the back or bottom of the device.
2b. Can’t See the FWA710 Wi-Fi Network
If the FWA710’s Wi-Fi network is not visible on your phone:
Press and hold the black Wi-Fi button on the device for 5 seconds to enable the local Wi-Fi signal.
Wait a few moments, then rescan for available networks on your mobile device.
2c. SIM Card Not Detected
If your FWA710 does not detect the SIM card:
Ensure the SIM card is inserted in the correct orientation.
You should hear a “click” when the SIM is fully inserted.
Make sure it is placed in the SIM 1 slot — not SIM 2.
To rule out a faulty SIM, insert it into a mobile phone and check if it works properly.
2d. SIM Detected but No Service
If the SIM card is recognized but there is no mobile signal, you may need to manually configure the APN settings in the Zyxel Air app.
How to Set the APN Manually:
Open the Zyxel Air app.
Go to Settings > APN Configuration.
Switch the APN Mode to Manual.
Enter the following:
APN
Username
Password
These values are provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). Contact your ISP for the correct settings.
