Network Switch - How to block Multicast in your Network

Zyxel Switches from GS1900-10HP up to XGS4600 and ADSL/VDSL DSLAM allow us to drop Multicast in the local Network. The benefit of this is that Switch doesn’t flood Multicast in hole Network.

1) Configure Multicast Block

Navigate to:

SWITCHING > Multicast > IPv4 Multicast > IGMP Snooping

Set Unknown Multicast Frame / Unknown Multicast Frame to Querier Port /
Reserved Multicast Group to Drop. (Info: It is not needed to set IGMP Snooping => Active)

Multicast will be dropped now in your Network.

2) Configure Multicast Block in Legacy GUI

Go to Multicast Setup under Advanced Applications and select here IPv4 Multicast:

  • Hello,

We have some XGS 4600 and XGS3700 in our network and we provide for a few thousands users Internet acces.

I am looking for some more protection in our network and I think one of them is to drop the multicast ON SPECIFIC VLAN.

    Is this possible?

Considering that the users are pppoe connected, can you give me some hints for better service reliability? Thanks
