Org-level Backup & Restore в Zyxel Nebula 19.20

In Nebula version 19.20, the Backup & Restore feature has been completely redesigned and promoted to an independent menu item in the NCC interface. This update enhances visibility, provides greater administrative control, and introduces automation options for backing up and restoring configuration data across sites, switches, and firewalls.

Site Restore Rules

RuleDescription
Site-to-Same-SiteA backup from Site A can only be restored to Site A.
Device-Based RuleThe backup is bound to each device’s MAC address. Restoration works only on the same device, not a replacement.
Cross-Site RestoreNot supported.

Purpose: Used for configuration rollback or recovery from faulty settings.

Site Backup & Restore

  1. Site Configuration – NCC captures a full snapshot of site-wide settings.

  2. Per-Device Configuration – Includes configuration details of all managed devices in the site:

    • Access Points (APs)

    • Switches (including Stacking Switches – new in version 19.20)

    • Cloud-managed Firewalls (ATP, USG FLEX, SCR series)

⚠️ Note: The USG FLEX H-Series is not supported until version 19.30.

Create backup 

  1. Click Actions > Create Backup.
  2. Enter a custom backup name.
  3. Wait for the backup process to complete.

⚠️ Do not modify configurations while backup is in progress.

4. Only the two most recent manual backups are retained. Older ones are overwritten.

Schedule backup 

  1. Select Actions >Set Backup Schedule.
  2. Enable scheduling and select frequency:
    • Daily
    • Weekly
    • Monthly
  3. Define the execution date and time.
    • If the selected date (e.g., 31st) doesn’t exist in a given month, the backup runs on the last day of the month.
  4. Each site can store up to two scheduled backups.

Restoration Guidelines

New Features Reset to Default: Features added after the backup revert to default values upon restore.
Example: PoE Schedule settings return to defaults.

Unlisted Devices Remain Unchanged: Devices added after the backup are not modified.

Restore to backed-up status 

  1. Click Actions > Restore.
  2. Choose the desired backup file.
  3. Confirm restoration when prompted.
  4. The system applies the configuration to the same site and devices (MAC-based validation).

Switch Backup & Restore

Purpose: Allows backing up and restoring individual switch configurations without affecting other site devices.

Supported Devices

  • All NCC-managed switches

  • Stacking Switches (with validation)
