Nebula [GUI] - Device List is Slow Loading

This guide shows how to make the pages of Nebula device list load faster despite having hundreds of devices. This is possible due to the categorization of information introduced in the Nebula Phase 12 release.

1. New loading improvement

2. How to make the pages load faster?

1. New loading improvement

When you load the device list, there are information columns that are actually processed and calculated while the page loads. The Phase 12 categorize those columns into:

  • Fast items: columns which information does not require a calculation over time and can be loaded faster, such as:  device MAC address, LAN/Public IP, Model, Name, Status, etc.
  • Loading items: columns which information needs to be calculated every time the page is loaded, such as: Usage, Connectivity, Clients, Firmware status.

Access Point list columns filter shows the items separated by their category:

This categorization allows Nebula to present the device list with only those items categorized as Fast, and show a "Loading" mark while the information for Loading items is being calculated in the background but does not affect the display of the list page:

Once the loading items are fully calculated, the information will be displayed. Each column might be displayed in a different time as they are calculated separately.

2. How to make the page load even faster?

The load of those fast items still impact the display of the whole list. Therefore, the less fast items you have selected, the quicker it will take to display the page.

In fact, the Loading items will not affect the display of the page as this will be shown as "loading" while the information is fetch.

For example:

If your daily basis monitoring only requires you to check the status of each Access Point properly identified, you might only select the fast items: Status, Name, Model, MAC address and LAN IP.

As there are fewer fast items selected, the display of the page will be faster.

You might have some Loading items also selected such as  Connectivity and Clients, and although this are slower, they do not impact the loading of the page, but you will only see a "Loading" mark while the data is being computed.

In this way, you see the data that matters for you within a short loading time period, increasing the productivity of you networking monitoring and troubleshooting.
