This document explains how to set the standard internet access device VMG series from routing into bridge mode. The bridge mode is used if you require the device to connect via xDSL to your provider and deliver a plain Ethernet connection on the port 1. No routing and firewall tasks are done by the device and the WLAN and DHCP functions are disabled. All required LAN tasks are taken by the gateway, that is connected to the VMG device, such as the firewall or WLAN backbone system.
We have two different looks of the Web GUI (will called "old" and "New" Version):
Old Version:
- Open an internet browser and access the web GUI of the VMG device (default is 192.168.1.1)
- Enter your username and password, which are on default:
Username: admin
Password: 1234 (or labeled on the device) - Navigate to Network Settings > Broadband Menu
- Edit the connection type you want to set into bridge mode
- Select Bridge as mode and enter a VLAN ID, if necessary
- Go to Security > Firewall and disable IPv4 and IPv6 Firewall
- After setting all up, please reboot, the device will now operate in the bridge mode
- The VMG can still be accessed via it's management IP.
New Version:

How do you access the management interface of the VMG after setting it to operate in bridge mode and then rebooting?
Dear Patrick,
we adjusted the KB.
It now includes the answer to your question.
The management IP of the VMG will still answer.
You can access it through routing from the router/firewall or via a LAN port of the VMG (you need to set your static IP in the same subnet).
Kind regards,
René Kocgazi
I've got 3 different "types" of connections, ADSL, VDSL and ENTWAN - I'm trying to make the zyxel router a bridge to a Google Nest WIFI, so which one of these should I bridge? (I've tried all 3 at the same time) and this just shut off the pipeline to my internet
Dear Mr. Christensen,
please verify with your internet provider if they are providing ADSL or VDSL on your internet line.
Then you have to set this specific interface to bridge mode. Please also verify with them, if a specific VLAN tag is needed (802.1Q).
Last but not least, verify if and which PPPoE credentials you need. You need to set up this PPPoE account in the device connected behind the VMG in bridge mode.
Thank you.
Kind Regards,
Lukas Bohnen
