This comprehensive guide provides detailed instructions on configuring Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs) on your VMG devices, which may be necessary to establish your internet connection or troubleshoot issues. This guide is handy if you own any VMG device models: VMG1312, VMG3625, VMG3925, VMG3927, or VMG8825. Configuring VLANs can often resolve the issue when your internet connection is not functioning correctly. VLANs allow you to segment network traffic, enhancing network performance and security. Following the steps outlined in this guide, you can set up VLAN Groups on your VMG device, ensuring that your internet connection is configured correctly and that you can maintain a stable and secure network environment. Whether setting up a new internet connection or addressing an existing connectivity problem, this guide will walk you through the necessary steps to configure VLANs on your VMG device.
Connect yourself directly to the device on the LAN port and make sure you have an IP address in the range of 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254 and enter the following address in your Web Browser (Google Chrome/Safari):
You can login to your router via http://192.168.1.1 Standard user name admin and the password 1234
Configure VLAN
Navigate to the "Menu" found at the top right corner of your screen [A], shown in the picture below:
Navigate to "Network Setting -> Broadband -> Add/Edit New WAN Interface":
Then configure 802.1p as "0" and 802.1q is your VLAN ID (for example 7) that you've gotten from your ISP to configure. If you're unsure what to configure here, please contact your internet service provider (ISP). Then configure 802.1p as "0" and 802.1q is your VLAN ID (for example 7) that you've gotten from your ISP to configure.
Configure VLAN Group
Here is an example of VMG8924-B10D, FW V5.13(ABGQ.3)C0
Step 1: Build a VLAN group
Navigate to GUI > Network Setting > Vlan Group, click Add New VLAN Group
- Create a group name
- Input the VLAN ID you need
- Click the LAN you want to use; the TX tagging means when download traffic goes the direction from CPE to the LAN client, it will have a VLAN tag. If your device is VLAN aware and needs to have VLAN tagged, please have the tagging option click
- Click OK to finish this step.
Build an Interface group
Go to GUI > Network Setting > Interface Grouping, click Add New Interface Group
- Input Group Name
- Indicates a WAN interface for this group will use
- For a LAN client, now click LAN4, and please scroll down to choose "+Add."
- It is the VLAN group condition to be selected in this group, not the LAN port number. Thus, we set group criteria here, not select LAN 4 port.
- Configure result
Modify DHCP range
Go to GUI > Network Setting > Home Networking, Add New Interface Group
- Now you can see a new group has been created, and you can modify the LAN host and DHCP Pool range to your needs.
