Ways to Manage the NR2301
The NR2301 offers two primary methods for management:
- LCD Screen Interface
- Utilize the LCD screen interface along with the buttons on the right side of the NR2301 for device management
- Web Configurator
- For everyday management, the Web Configurator is recommended. It can be accessed using a supported web browser
Accessing Web GUI
To access the Web Configuration of the NR2301, follow these steps:
- Turn on the Device: Use the button on the side panel to turn on the device
- Connect the Device: Use the included USB cable to connect the NR2301 to a computer
- IP Address Configuration: Ensure that your computer's IP address is in the same subnet as the NR2301, ideally within the range of 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254.
- Launch Web Browser: Open your web browser and navigate to http://192.168.1.1.
- User name and password: User name: "admin" and password to access the web interface of NR2301 on the device itself, you can find on the LCD screen of the device select the item "Menu" then select the section "About" and press the button "Next", after performing these actions you will see the administrator password.
Note: If the administrator password was previously modified (this can be done via the Web GUI), you must use your custom password rather than the default password listed in the device menu. If the custom password is forgotten, the device can be reset to factory settings by pressing the "Reset" button.
- Login to Web Configurator: A login screen will appear. Enter the default username 'admin' and the password
Basic Configuration
- Navigate to "WIFI SETTINGS" on your device.
- Modify essential settings like SSID Name, wireless password, and select the preferred security mode.
- Additionally, you have the option to configure a separate guest WIFI network and establish an activity schedule for your SSIDs.
- Note: Configuring a guest WIFI network adds an extra layer of security for your main network, and setting activity schedules can enhance energy efficiency and control network access.
How to manage SIM PIN via Router Web GUI in NR2301
Below you will find how to enter pin code, how to change pin code or how to disable pin code verification for Zyxel NR2301
- Connect your NR2301 to your computer with a USB cable to access the web interface, OR use your mobile phone and connect via WIFI.
- You can Login to the Zyxel router’s web interface by entering the router’s IP (http://zyxel.home/login.html or 192.168.1.1) address into your web browser.
- The default username is “admin,” and the password can be found on the device menu screen. Go to “About” and select “Next.” Your password will appear on the screen, as in the example below.
- Enter the username and password in the device's web interface, as shown in the picture below.
- In the upper right corner, click on “PIN Locked”
- Enter the PIN code in the window that appears and click “Apply”.
- The connection status in the upper right corner should change if the PIN code is entered correctly and the SIM card is not in trouble. You can now disable the PIN code on this card or change it if necessary.
Advanced settings
In the "APP MODULE" section you will find a wider functionality of the device, which includes three sections:
- Device Status
- Network Settings
- Device Management
Package Settings
The Package Settings of the NR2301 enable users to control mobile data usage and set data limits for specific periods. This feature is accessible through the APP MODULE > Package Settings. The options available in this section can vary depending on the selected package type.
Firewall
NR2301 offers a variety of firewall settings:
- URL Filter: This feature allows administrators to block access to specific websites on their network.
- Port Forward: It enables forwarding of incoming service requests to specific servers within the local network.
- Port Trigger and Port Filter: These settings are used to modify trigger port settings and create firewall rules to block unwanted traffic.
- UPnP: Universal Plug and Play can be enabled or disabled for ease of connectivity and security.
- Remote Management: This setting controls the ability of WAN users to ping or configure the NR2301
Port Forwarding
Port Forwarding in the NR2301 is used to direct incoming service requests to specific servers on your local network. This is particularly useful for hosting servers, like web or FTP servers, that need to be accessible from outside your local network.
DMZ Settings
The NR2301 allows enabling of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) to separate external-facing services from the internal network. This is especially useful for hosting public services like websites, while keeping the rest of the network secure.
VPN
NR2301 supports various VPN protocols:
- VPN Passthrough: It includes support for L2TP, IPSEC, and PPTP protocols. This feature can be enabled in the VPN Passthrough section under APP MODULE.
- VPN Client Settings: The device allows the configuration of VPN client settings, providing secure remote access to the network.
Configuration Backup
The NR2301 allows users to back up and restore the device configuration:
- Backup: Users can save the configuration file with a ".bin" extension to their computer. This is useful for saving settings that can be restored later.
- Restore: Previously saved configuration files can be restored from a user's computer to the NR2301. This process automatically restarts the NR2301 after the configuration file is successfully uploaded.
