This article provides essential updates for Zyxel's 5G NR series devices, including the NR5101, NR7101, and NR2101. We highly recommend utilizing the latest updates for your NR5101/NR7101/NR2101 device, as these updates address numerous known issues and vulnerabilities. Installing the updates is a straightforward process and can effectively resolve concerns related to signal quality, device stability, unexpected crashes, and unscheduled reboots. Furthermore, these updates address issues related to SIM card detection and other challenges associated with provider settings. Note: To access Voice over LTE (VoLTE) features offered by ISPs for making calls over LTE/4G. Due to the complexity of VoLTE configurations, Zyxel firmware does not support VoLTE. Since each provider has unique VoLTE configurations, it is best to purchase Zyxel equipment from your provider. As a workaround, you can configure the LTE router for 3G only to enable VoLTE, but this will not work in regions such as Germany, where 3G is unavailable.

Note:  Not every firmware may work in every country. You can refer to the "digits", i.e. "AAYE", if your current firmware on the device matches this article to install a new one. Note: Updating the modem module firmware may seem like an easy way to keep your device up to date. However, it is generally recommended that you do not update the module firmware unless you are experiencing specific connectivity or performance issues. Updating the modem firmware can sometimes introduce new, unexpected problems that can affect the stability or performance of the connection. In many cases, manufacturers develop firmware updates to address specific issues or improve compatibility with certain networks or regions. If your device is already working well, there's little benefit to the update, and it may inadvertently disrupt stable performance. Therefore, unless you are experiencing problems, it is best to refrain from updating firmware to maintain a reliable and stable connection.

NR7101 - Update and Troubleshooting Instructions for Updating NR7101

Note: We recommend avoiding LTE (radio) module firmware updates unless necessary, as they can sometimes reduce device performance. LTE (radio) is often tailored to specific regions and network settings. If your device is stable, updating the device firmware only, not the LTE module, is sufficient.

The module firmware names indicate both the version to be installed and the one to which you can upgrade. All updates must be installed sequentially, following the correct order, one by one.

• G502QEAAAR01A04-R11A03 - R11A03 Firmware - (from R01 (A04) to R11 (A03))
• RG502QEAAAR11A03-R11A06 - R11A06 Firmware - (from A03 to A06)
• RG502QEAAAR11A06M4G - R11A07  Firmware - (from A06 to A07)
• RG502QEA_R11A07 - ZYXELR13A02 Firmware - (from R11A07 to ZYXELR13A02)

NR7101 - Troubleshooting LTE Module update issues in NR7101

If you have trouble installing the latest version of the update, please follow the steps below. This procedure is only suitable if the LTE module version RG502QEAAAR13A02M4G is installed. 

Note: 

Each update step can take up to 10 minutes. After each step, you should reboot your device and check the current firmware version. It is also strongly recommended that you remove the SIM card from the device during the LTE module update. 

1. Download the following file and downgrade it to R11A07 first: EAAAR13A02M4G-EAAAR11A07M4G.zip
2. Reboot the device and check that the firmware version is RG502QEAAAR11A07M4G.
3. Next, update the device's firmware to the latest version. If this step has already been completed, you may skip it. The latest firmware version is V1.00(ABUV.10)C0
4. Download the following update and install it: RG502QEA_R11A07-ZYXELR13A02
5. Reboot the device and check that the firmware version is ZYXELR13A02.
6. Download the following update and install it: ZYXELR13A02 - ZYXELR13A04
