NR7101 - Configure Dual SIM Function

This article provides instructions on using the Dual SIM function in the NR7101 5G router. The router has two SIM slots that can accommodate two SIM cards but cannot function simultaneously. Users can configure the Dual SIM function through the router's web GUI by selecting the preferred SIM slot and enabling the "Switch when Detach" function. Verification can be done by checking the SIM card in use through the System Monitor. Additionally, the article explains how to enter and modify PIN codes for the SIM cards in the selected slot.

1) Introduction

This document explains how to configure the NR7101 Cellular Dual SIM function and is based on the firmware V1.00(ABUV.6)b4.
NR7101 has two SIM slots that can insert 2 SIM cards, but not two SIM cards function simultaneously.

The cellular Dual-SIM function is a failover design; it allows to switch off the SIM card automatically.

2. Log in to NR7101’s web GUI.
3. Go to the Cellular Dual SIM function (Network Settings -> Broadband -> Cellular APN).

The default setting of “Preferred SIM slot” is “Auto.”

  • Auto - means NR7101 will choose SIM card automatically
  • SIM1 or SIM2 - “SIM1” and “SIM2” means NR7101 will choose the SIM card in the specified slot
  • The "Switch when Detach" - function means to switch to another SIM slot when the current SIM cannot attach successfully (Choose “Preferred SIM Slot” to “Auto” and enable the “Switch when Detach” function)

3) Verification

We use two SIM cards to verify the function.

One SIM card can connect to the mobile network (we will use “able SIM card” to describe it), and another cannot connect to the mobile web because the contract is over.

(we will use “unable SIM card” to describe it)

Customers can check which SIM card is used through System Monitor -> Cellular WAN status.

Check the IMSI and ICCID to identify which SIM card is in use.

For example, IMSI 466011700423XXX is a SIM card that can connect to the internet.

Setting

Preferred SIM Slot Auto
Switch when Detach Disable -> Enable
SIM 1 Slot Unable SIM card
SIM 2 Slot Able SIM card
The SIM card in use Unable SIM card

When we enable the “Switch when Detach” function and set the “Preferred SIM Slot” to “Auto,” It will automatically switch from “unable SIM card” to the “able SIM card,” and the connection status will change from disconnected to connected.

4) Enter PIN Code of the SIM slots

4.1 Access the 5G Router Interface

    • Ensure that you are connected to the 5G router either through a wired or wireless connection.
    • Open a web browser on a device connected to the router and enter the default IP address or domain name specified in the router's documentation.
