This article provides detailed answers to frequently asked questions about the Multy WiFi system, covering topics such as the roaming function, compatibility, antenna configuration, device support, and Amazon Alexa integration. Designed for ease of understanding, the article compiles essential information about Multy X into a single, cohesive question-and-answer format, ensuring that readers can quickly find the information they need.
This is to inform you that the product Multy M1 (WSM20)/Multy Mini(WSQ20)/Multy Plus (WSQ60)/Multy U (WSR30)/Multy X (WSQ50) has officially reached its End-of-Life (EOL) status. As a result, technical support is no longer guaranteed. Any further use, configuration, or modification is performed at your own risk. We appreciate your understanding.
Q1: What is the roaming function on Multy X and how does it work?
A1: The roaming function on Multy X is based on the IEEE 802.11v protocol, which allows the configuration of client devices while connected to a wireless device. For successful roaming between the router and the client, the client device must also support IEEE 802.11v. Multy X monitors the signal quality of the client device and uses the information to suggest a connection change to another device via the 802.11v protocol. However, the final decision to change the connection rests with the client device; Multy X does not make this change independently.
Q2: How many Multy X nodes can I use in a Multy X Network?
A2: Officially for Multy X, the supported number of nodes is 6. You can add more, but it may affect the overall performance.Multy M1 (WSM20), Multy Plus (WSQ60), Multy U (WSR30), and Multy X (WSQ50) are independent systems and only the same models can connect. This means that Multy X cannot be combined with Multy M1, Multy U, or Multy Plus. However, Multy Mini (WSQ20) can expand the Multy X (WSQ50) and Multy Plus (WSQ60) WiFi systems for additional coverage.
Q3: How many antennas does the Multy X have and what are their purposes?
A3: The Multy X contains nine antennas. Six antennas are used for the 5GHz radio, two antennas are used for the 2.4GHz radio, and one antenna is used for CSR (Bluetooth).
Q4: What is the current function of the USB port on the Multy X?
A4: The USB port on the Multy X is reserved for future usage and currently does not have any function.
Q5: What ports and protocols should be allowed for Multy X to communicate with the cloud in restrictive environments?
A5: To ensure successful communication with the cloud, the following ports and protocols should be allowed outgoing for the Multy X:
Ports:
443 (HTTPS) for sending/receiving configuration and monitoring information
53 (DNS) for name resolution to reach the myZyxelCloud
Protocol:
1 (ICMP) for connectivity checks to myZyxelCloud
No NAT is needed on the router located in front of the Multy X system.
Q6: How many wireless devices does Multy X support?
A6: A set of two Multy X units supports a maximum of 127 wireless clients. A single Multy X unit also supports up to 127 wireless clients.
Q7: Can Amazon Alexa support two Multy X WiFi Systems on the same account?
A7: No, Amazon Alexa can only control one Multy X WiFi System per account. If there are two Multy X WiFi systems on the same account, Amazon Alexa will not function properly.
Q8. When might you need to turn off the LEDs on Zyxel Multy X devices?
A8: When you place your WiFi system in rooms where light can be distracting or undesirable — such as bedrooms or dark environments.
Q9. Why should you consider turning off the LEDs on Zyxel Multy X?
